CHAPTER SIXTEEN

Kat stretched her legs, her toes curling and gripping the satiny bedsheet, her whole body feeling so languid and fluid, her muscles soft. Even rarer, her mind was blissfully quiet. Her daily list of tasks, looming deadlines, and past failures not ricocheting around in her brain as they normally did.

Pulling the fluffy deep blue covers up fully to her neck, she snuggled deeper into the warmth and comfort, though her nose started to twitch. The aroma of bacon and pancakes reaching her and luring her out of the blankets.

Opening her eyes everything slammed back into awareness and the slight ache in her pelvic area served as a reminder of what had occurred between them. Kat released a whoosh of air, closing her eyes again and groaning. Last night could have majorly changed Tristan’s expectations of things. Before he had seemed content to take things day by day, working on the book and exploring the world. Her plan had always been to help him as much as she could, find one of his relatives, and send him in their direction with some valid-looking ID’s compliments of her brother’s connections, fingers crossed that Ben would help.

But now, now he might want more.

Something that Kat couldn’t give.

Another groan escaped her as Kat sat up, her hands patting around under the covers for her missing underwear. If she were completely honest, she was ready to head back to her house in Philly, back to the excitement of the city and ready to jump into a book tour for the new book. Just ready for life to return to normal. A life that didn’t have a man in it, not even one as sweet and down-right sexy as Tristan Davies.

Spying her panties on the floor, Kat got up and grabbed them. As she wiggled into them, she continued to turn things around in her head. There was no sense getting ahead of herself here. Tristan, himself, hadn’t seemed particularly eager to settle down in his own time, why would he want to now? And with her? She had seen the way he looked at women while they were shopping. A man like him could have his choice of women, why would he want a flat-chested older woman, anyway?

Kat sniffed, rubbing at her cheeks, her fingers came away damp. Was she crying?!

She flopped back down on the bed, her balled up fists removing the rest of the tears from her face.

Why was she doing this to herself? She didn’t want him becoming attached and now she was agonizing over him not wanting her. Stupid! Stupid! She had to get her head on straight, no more bullshit psychoanalyzing. Get up and see what awaited her and go from there.

So, she did, taking a detour into the bathroom first to rinse her face off.

Kat found Tristan in the kitchen, wearing one of his new pairs of jeans and another t-shirt, this one a pre-faded blue. Yesterday he had seemed to really like the one she got him, so they had ended up buying five more in various colors, some with graphics, some plain.
